Social media: to be or not to be?

During the last 20 years social media has increased its peak of popularity and nowadays there are no rules but only a freedom in the digital world. Smartphones seem like a real key to the limitless access to all the Internet platforms that allow us to express our opinion and create some content anytime at anyplace.

Different age groups were interviewed for their opinion about a society without any social media and smartphones at all, how would it look like?

Although the question seems to be easy, it was a great challenge for people to find an answer.

Talking about the elder generation, the difficulties started with even the understanding the question's meaning because the majority of them used to live happily without any of those resources, getting informed by the earlier forms of media channels. In fact, they are just starting to get familiar with digitalization (of 21st century) but wouldn't mind returning back to the good old days.

Controversially, the youngsters cannot really imagine their lives without taking the advantages and opportunities of the nowadays connected technology and being online 24/7. By now, the latest generation gets all the information online using an enormous bundle of the applications installed on their smart devices.

Despite all the disagreements, the common point could be found in deterioration of the information flow and including the way of communication. Apart from the fact that it would be a huge step back for the whole digital era, there is a great possibility that the speed of spreading the news will slow down and would not reach that much of the audience as it was before. Whereas a quality improvement would take place in terms of the written news, the humanity would face "word of mouth" as the new obstacle switching the fake news feeding cradle of social media sources.

Even though it is hard to imagine the world without the social media and smartphones, it definitely has a bunch of advantages and it would not be impossible to manage it. Considering the media focus and the innovations, due to which the humanity is directed, conclusion can be made that the social media is better to be rather than not to be to continue the progress.
